Vacuum pumps are used to generate a technical vacuum, i.e. to generate low pressures. Depending on the target pressure to be achieved, different types of vacuum pumps are used. While simple backing pumps are sufficient for rough vacuum processes, additional high vacuum pumps are required for high and ultra-high vacuum processes. In the fine vacuum range, roots pumps are frequently used, to extend the working range of the backing pump by one or two decades in pressure. In each of these classes, Leybold offers a large number of different pump types, each tailored to the specific needs of a wide range of applications.
